Making Popcorn Old School

Elisabeth was kind enough to bring over her old style popcorn maker this past weekend. Say goodbye to the microwave - old school popcorn is the only true way to indulge.

my family used to have a air popper. it would jet super hot air up and would pop the popcorn. no oil… and it would fall out into a bowl. it was great. I missed that thing, I need to find a new one.

Yes, we did have one of those when you were very, very young. When I was a kid we had one with the orange bowl. When Grandma bought it that was the *new* way to pop corn, now it’s old school! We also had an air popper when you were a kid, but you didn’t like that one.

I used to go over to my neighbor’s house in Omaha, circa 1989-90, to watch Full House. I remember making old school popcorn like this and thinking their house smelt funny (later realizing it was the smell of cigarette smoke). Hooray for cigarette smoke popcorn!

Sup Chris! True, this is a older method than the microwave, but I don’t know if it qualifies as old school. In my house we didn’t eat popcorn often, my dad was a stickler for dental health, (something about the husks…) but when we did it was a BIG deal. We used a corningware pot, with a glass lid. Pour in the corn oil, popcorn kernels, heat, and wait. When the first few started to explode my mom would grab the pot by its handles using oven mits and shake it. My sister and I would stand in the kitchen and watch the kernels hit the lid. “Shake it again mommy!” we’d cry over and over. It was interactive, special and oh so tasty!

BTW, how do I reply to the vid directly?
